Our ProfileOur Profile

The Manufacturing Technology Institute – MTI of RWTH Aachen University looks back at decades of successful and groundbreaking research in the area of manufacturing technology. Thereby, the department Forming Technology has actively transitioned the realms of modern forming processes. For the leap towards usage of green steels in forming industry, we would like to hire a passionate and engaged student assistant who seeks for long-term development.

The transformation of the national and global steel industry towards sustainable and circular value creation requires exhaustive research along the whole value chain – from crude steel production to the final part and its end-of-life treatment. MTI actively helps creating a sustainable future for industrial production and usage of those new steels to maintain prosperity and reduce emissions at the same time (for more information on the Circular Steel Project see here: https://www.mti.rwth-aachen.de/cms/mti/forschung/projekte/~brvdqs/circular-steel-8211-wegebereiter-fuer-/?lidx=1). Thereby, it focuses on the effects of altered compositions of green steels on formability. In MTI’s high-tech machine park, the vision goes beyond theory. Here, a servo-mechanic fine blanking press and an industry-like hydraulic press, as well as standard sheet metal forming test machinery, serve the need for elaborate and applied research on this topic. With an in-house metallographic laboratory and a measurement laboratory that is equipped with devices for tactile and optical surface measurement, microscopy, and material characterisation, the consequences of altered compositions on part quality can be analysed.
