The "Digital Production and NC Technology" group at the Chair of Machine Tools led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Brecher deals with the integrative networking of real and digital systems along the product development process.

Through systematic aggregation, analysis and interpretation of planning, process and inspection data, we create transparency in complex manufacturing environments. With the help of data science and artificial intelligence (AI), we identify optimization potential and develop models for tomorrow's production. To strengthen our team, we are looking for motivated students who would like to combine theory and practice in exciting projects. We offer our student assistants:

Your ProfileYour Profile

  • Currently enrolled in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or similar engineering sciences
  • Interest in the topics of digitalization, data analysis and production technology
  • Basic knowledge or strong interest in AI topics
  • Very good knowledge of German or English, both written and spoken
  • Programming skills in Python and/or other high-level languages
  • Experience in data analysis is an advantage
  • Hands-on mentality, initiative and structured way of working

Your Duties and ResponsibilitiesYour Duties and Responsibilities

To support our research group, we are looking for a student assistant with a weekly working time of 7-10 hours. The focus of the activities is to support the ongoing research project "DüWeKMU" with a focus on digitization and data analysis to optimize the tool path and spindle speed. Possible activities include:

  • Execution of test series on modern test benches and machine tools
  • Analysis of process data using data-driven (AI) modeling
  • Training of agentic AI
  • Independent research work
  • Support in day-to-day business

What We OfferWhat We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
There is an option to extend the contract. Longer-term employment is desirable.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 7-10 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15.20 euros per hour.
