The team at the DAP (Digital Additive Production) Chair at RWTH Aachen University conducts research together with industrial and academic partners into the fundamental principles of digital and additive manufacturing and transfers these findings into industrial applications.
Our work covers topics ranging from component design and manufacturing processes to production and the performance characteristics of additively manufactured components. In addition, supporting processes such as engineering and design, quality management, and the integration of the entire digital process chain are key areas of our development activities.
Individual consulting and training services complement our portfolio. Within the framework of industrial projects, we work closely with partners from the automotive, aerospace, turbomachinery, life sciences, and mechanical, tooling, and mold-making industries to develop and shape the future of digital and additive manufacturing.

Your ProfileYour Profile
- Currently enrolled in a technical degree program, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering Science (CES), Physics, or a related field
- Interest in data-driven design, design automation, and the application of AI methods
- Ideally, initial knowledge of design engineering, engineering analysis, and/or programming
- Independent, structured, and meticulous way of working, combined with initiative and commitment
- Enthusiasm for contributing your own ideas and participating in innovative research approaches
- Very good command of English, both written and spoken
Your Duties and ResponsibilitiesYour Duties and Responsibilities
- Familiarization with the state of the art and scientific literature in the fields of data-driven design and design automation
- Investigation of the integration and potential of AI methods for the automation of design processes
- Support in the preparation, analysis, and evaluation of data for the development and validation of data-driven methods
- Conducting research and development tasks at the intersection of design, data analysis, and automation
- Supporting the development of innovative, data-driven automation approaches for conventional design and development processes
What We OfferWhat We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 15 hours.
The specific number of weekly working hours will be agreed upon consultation and may be adjusted as needed.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15.20 euros per hour.
