The Energy Systems Engineering research group at the Chair of Technical Thermodynamics, led by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wirt. Niklas von der Aßen, focuses on developing methods for the computer-aided analysis and optimization of energy systems, as well as their assessment regarding energy and environmental impact. To support our research in the field of energy system optimization, we are currently seeking a student research assistant.

Your ProfileYour Profile

  • Enthusiasm for energy systems of the future
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering/Business Administration and Engineering/CES with a focus on Energy Engineering/Process Engineering or a comparable field
  • Basic programming skills (ideally in Python) are required
  • Basic knowledge of energy system modeling, mathematical optimization, or machine learning are advantageous
  • Strong communication skills

Your Duties and ResponsibilitiesYour Duties and Responsibilities

We are researching how to make sound investment decisions in energy systems under long-term uncertainty. To this end, we use methods from the fields of mathematical optimization and machine learning. Specifically, you will assist with the following tasks:

  • Modeling and optimizing industrial energy systems
  • Contributing to current research topics in the FlexiT project (for more information, see the project website)

What We OfferWhat We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
Employment beyond the fixed-term period is possible.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8-11 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15,20 € per hour.
